Beenleigh Tavern is tuned into Brisbane’s Original Music Frequency

One of Brisbane’s most popular Southside venues is getting behind the growing population of original music talent in Queensland by providing opportunities for them to build their music careers from the grassroots up.

Situated just off exit 35 on the way to the Gold Coast, the Beenleigh Tavern is a favourite in the local community of Beenleigh and a long standing supporter for emerging original Brisbane artists being one of the corporate partners in the Gigahertz program.

Brisbane, a bustling thriving nest for local musical talent is breeding artists and building industry communities like never before. Recognised by Billboard in 2007 as one of the five "unlikely" cities spawning exciting new sounds, alongside Beijing, Birmingham, Berlin and Marseille, Brisbane in 2010, is a living breathing showcase for some of the world’s most exciting original artists.

The Gigahertz program, conducted by The Pushworth Group and supported by a select group of corporate partners like the Beenleigh Tavern is dedicated to the growth and health of the Australia Music Industry, providing a tiered development program for original music artists outside the major label networks.

The Beenleigh Tavern provides the grassroots opportunity for Gigahertz Local - a weekly platform for bands and artists to play their own music in a public venue, getting them out of the house, school, and studio and honing their craft in front of a live audience. Held on Friday nights from 8pm onwards, the tavern puts on the rock show – the stage, PA, professional sound and lighting, with technicians and production managers to lend a helping hand.

The Gigahertz Program is a keen initiative of The Pushworth Group who are celebrating their twentieth year as an entertainment business in Queensland. Manny Kyriakidis, Gig Director, started his thirty year career in the music industry playing in original bands cutting his teeth on the notorious North Queensland circuit in the late 1980s. Manny is a name that is synonymous with the Australian music industry. He is the man responsible for the management of profitable tours and concerts for the likes of many of Australia's top contemporary youth artists The major labels in Australia don't trust the careers of their artists to just anyone. The major promoters in Australia don’t trust their tours or events to just anyone. These professionals choose to work with Manny because no one knows music in Queensland like he goes. Tuned into the biggest network of Australia artists with industry services at his fingertips, Manny shared: “With ‘Gigahertz’, we just want to get the talent and the music out of the house and on stage. You need to get gig tight to write better songs. You need to work your crowd on stage, on line and speak directly to your audience. You need to gig until it hurts and then the real juice starts in your sound.”

Starting at 8pm every Friday, each band gets a 45 minute set to showcase their sound. Slots are open to original artists of any genre and they can sign up to perform at as many nights as they want. After all, who wouldn’t want to build their audience, be a part of Queensland’s largest professional music network and be given free publicity metrics in the Gigahertz program campaigns?

The Gigahertz program takes artists on a journey through performance, recording, branding, planning, publicity and touring opportunities. The next step after Gigahertz Local is an invitation to perform at one of the high profile Gigahertz Roadcasing concerts sharing the stage with charting touring artists. There are Concert supports up for grabs, Festival spots and Music Branding campaigns available for original artists on the road to the next big thing.

As spring emerges in Brisbane, Naomi, manager of the Beenleigh Tavern says: “It’s exciting to be part of the Gigahertz program, supporting original live music and providing them with a great start.”
